Lavish geometric borders such as this are often found in folk embroidery of the Ukraine and are excellent examples of simple elements combining to create an intricate and stunning embroidery. While traditionally worked in high contrast colors such as red, green, and orange, I have reimagined this in a warmer, more saturated palette of ruby, dark turquoise, blue-green, golden olive, and deep grey to coordinate with modern home interiors as either a table square or cushion cover.

If you would like to finish this as a cushion cover, there is a Free Chart for the center design here. Allow about 10% more floss if you would like to stitch the center design (if you're ordering a kit, we allow 15% extra floss, so you should have enough for the center design).

Thanks to Leslie Weidenman for sharing her cushion cover with us!

Finished size (exclusive of finishing): 13-1/8 x 13-1/8”

Stitch count: 177 x 177 sts/16720 sts/1024 backstitches

If you'd like a motif for the center, please visit the Free Chart page to find the Ukrainian Tulips Free Chart.

My high quality kits come with everything you need to make the embroidery in the photos--our 26ct Mikini in ivory, DMC floss, full color SOC (symbol-on-chart) pattern, along with a John James size 24 tapestry needle. The raw edges of the fabric are serged for your convenience, so you can start stitching as soon as you open the kit!
