I've read fellow stitches talk about Q Snaps, squashed stitches, tearing the fabric, hoops leaving marks, needing to be moved frequently to get away from the edge, etc. Try free hand stitching; just wob the material in your hand and stitch using your underside finger to feel the needle (thank goodness tapestery needles are round point). You can move anywhere in your pattern with no interference. You can use the sewing motion (much faster) rather than the punch and pull. I haven't used any frame for over 40 years of cross stitch. One drawback - I can no longer straighten either of my two middle fingers which are the prime holders of the fabric and needle.....Oh well!

Sorry about your fingers, but I'm sure that after more than 40 years of stitching you have many lovely compensations.
