Thanks for the comments. I thought cutwork, but the colors and pattern gave me pause. It is beautifully stitched. If only these pieces could talk —-share their stories and travels!!
It is cutwork and uses button hole stitch. It looks like it could be depicting the oracle at Delphi in Greece
This is cutwork and, from the design, I would guess it to be Arts-and-Crafts-inspired, so maybe from the 1920s or 30s? I love the two-tone use of thread to give more interest and complexity to the design. What a find!
