A quick pit stop in Athens again before heading home. These are from the Benaki Museum. 🇬🇷💙🧵
This is my favorite place in the Benaki!!
SO much to love there. We were able to get there only an hour before closing and they practically had to chase us out. 😆
So much amazing. We showed up an hour before close and I was racing around, trying to see it all. 😆
I could spend days looking at all of this. The embroideries are breathtaking. And why don't people dress like this any more? I would love to wear such a beautiful dress!
So gorgeous. But I kept thinking about how HOT these garments would be in the Greek summer sun!!
Beautiful. The picture of the room with the mannequin looks like a depiction of a doxato (the principal livingroom of a mansion of Kastoria). The woman's dress is very typical of the traditional dress of 19th century Kastoria, as is the little fez-like headress with the long tassle. I know this because my mother was born in Kastoria.
Therè was a green silk dress in the family that had belonged to my maternal great grandmother and there is a picture of my mother wearing it as a teenager for a festival.
How wonderful. Here is the description of the room.
