I m a beginner. I watched the 'How to cross stitch' video on this website, but I have also read that you should start right in the middle of your fabric. I am confused, please advise. Thanks, Jennifer
Sure thing! A lot of designs start in the upper corner and that's what's shown in the video, but a few designs start in the center because it saves you a ton of time counting stitches. So, to start in the center, fold your fabric in half and then in half again and mark the center with a bit of floss--open up your fabric and you've got that bit of floss showing the center. Now, look at your pattern and see where the center of the design is--you can mark it on the full-size chart if that's helpful. Start stitching the center of the chart at the center of the fabric. Let us know if you have any trouble!
Thank you Krista. The kit I bought is Grecian Stripe. I started on the upper left corner, 2 inches in on each side, but then I thought is that going to come out correctly. Then I counted the number of stitches across on the pattern provided(101). Am I overthinking this? I just don't want to have to start over. Thanks, Jennifer
The BitKit Grecian Stripe is a corner start (not center start). So, yes, if you start 2 inches in from each corner, you'll be fine. The fabric is 11x13 inches and 101 sts = 7.8 " on 13 sts/inch fabric, so it leaves you plenty of hem allowance.
