I have finally finished this beautiful basket cover. I started it when it was originally released - had several starts and stops with it because I couldn't figure out a strategy for stitching it. The design is stunning, I think, even more so when actually stitched than in the kit photo. It is a dense, intricate design. This, too, is being given as a gift to a special person. I signed it - which I rarely do- and used my initials in Greek letters.

About Avlea Folk Embroidery. May I mention the excellent shipping track record that they have ? My orders always ship out next day and even to the East Coasti of Florida from the far off lands of the Pacific Northwest, my order arrives usually within two days. FREE. far fewer days than orders from closer states. Thank you!

And here she is, finally finished and ready to be wrapped as a gift. This is the third BitKit I work on and give as a gift. I find these just perfect for that "little something" with a personal touch, without being over the top.

I posted this BitKit start a little while ago. Well, it's closing in on a finish. I plan to hemstitch it and give it to one of my grandson's teachers assistant. Stay tuned .....

I've just finished Santorini Stars cushion cover and have another cushion in the wings. I thought I would start this smaller piece which I've been hankering to do for a while. Once again, Appleton wool. I like working with it.

Hi. I'm at the point of buying a pillow insert for my finished Santorini Stars. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions as to the best fill for this ? Down? Down alternative? Straight poly? I'm going for a tight look but comfortable.

It's a slow progress on this design, as I still refer to the chart closely and haven't picked up a rhythm. But I love how it's taking shape. I think it will be a stunning piece. Stitched on 30 count Mikini as provided in the kit.

This is now a few bits in. I'm really enjoying stitching this lovely. I had to adjust my tension at the beginning because I found I was pulling too tight. I actually pulled out the entire left diamond and started again. And miscounted, so pulled out and started yet again ! Now I've got the hang of it.

I’m looking for a project to start right now. What I’m looking for is something calming and meditative. I’m coming out Of working an intricate reproduction sampler and lots of family activity that has left me mentally and physically tired. Any suggestions? I have a stash but want to hear your excellent ideas! Thanks.

Today I got some seriously happy mail. When I first heard that phrase, I didn’t understand it. I thought it was a cute exaggeration. But over the months, I’ve come to understand it. I totally get it. Perhaps I understand it a little too often ?

This was quick to stitch up. I couldn’t decide whether to stitch it in the blue/black color way or in the yellow/blue color way (I actually think yellow black would be beautiful too.) I think I’m going to frame this one In a minimalist black wood frame with no mat so as to let the design stand out on its own. It will look nice as a miniature vignette hanging on an intimate little wall. I could also give it away to a good friend. I love BitKits. Next project: large!

I must love this pattern since I also ordered the larger project Byzantine Rose and I think I have it in both fabrics ! (I pay a lot of attention to the fabric I'm stitching on. It's absolutely part of the thing). Anyway, I was surprised that this design is actually a bit more intricate (at least for me) than appears at first glance. I love the classic Mediterranean vibe and colors. Had a bit of a go about the hemstitch finish, and even took out a doodle cloth to practice several different techniques because I wasn't happy with the first few inches that I had sewn. I love how the Avlea designs are useful in everyday life.

Hi. I posted the start of this piece a bit ago, and now I can share the finish. This is intended to be an end-of-year gift for my grandson’s preschool teacher. She is from Albania and has imparted some lovely old country ways. She’s been wonderful for him. Photo on the right is the back

i really like working these BitKits. The first one I did just happened to land underneath a flower vase on my nightstand and it is charming. This one will be a gift for a friend.

This was my first finished Avlea piece: Linaria BitKit. I finished it last year and procrastinated making the hem until January. This was also my first attempt at a hemstitch finish. A little rough, but now I know how it should go so next one may be better.

Hi. I am pretty careful to have a neat and tidy back to my stitching. I tend to plan out the area so that I do as little traveling as possible. With these geometric repeating patterns in Mediterranean embroidery, I’m having trouble doing that. Does anyone have a tip on how to keep the back neat? Do all one color or small element at a time or finish a whole motif that then gets repeated ? Or let go of neatness and just stitch !?
