A restful grove of cypress trees comprises this graceful double-ended runner. The design has its origins in a scarf from a bride’s trousseau from the Greek islands and beautifully illustrates how historic motifs were incorporated into folk embroidery. Cypress trees were associated with death and mourning in antiquity but later came to symbolize eternal life and immortality, and are frequently seen in many types of ancient art from the Mediterranean world. This elegant runner is worked in the original palette of warm red, old gold, and vibrant green.
