Arrows and circles—classic design motifs used throughout antiquity in textiles, rugs, pottery, and stone carving--combine to create a striking and intricate compass design. Each compass is then alternated in a “half drop” arrangement common to many historic textiles. This compelling all over design is worked in a restrained color palette of black, terra cotta, and golden olive and the pattern gives charts for either a small or large runner. It would also make a wonderful bolster pillow.
 
This pattern is a "multi-size" pattern and includes a closeup chart for ease of working the design and then full size charts for four different sizes of finished embroideries--small or large runner and small or large cushion cover/table square.

Small Runner—9x14" including hem/103 x 179 sts
Large Runner--11 x 21" including hem/141 x 293 stitches
Small cushion cover—14.5x14.5" excluding finishing/216x217 sts
Large cushion cover—17x17" excluding finishing/255x255 sts
