This compelling design has its origins in a 1926 hand colorized photo of an embroidered Armenian embroidery from my private collection of "pochoirs", a type of hand-colored photograph that was used to document folk embroideries. It features the graceful ramshorn motif alternating with stars and Xs and its half drop motif placement creates a vibrant energy with bands of color that mimic traditional weaving. The bold black, terra cotta and olive green colorway is striking and dramatic.

The photo shows it as finished as a cloth for a table or shelf, but it would also be stunning as a pillow or wallhanging (these finishing techniques are shown on our website).

Finished size 7-1/2 x 12-3/4” (including hem)

Stitch count: 91 x 171 sts

My high quality kits come with everything you need to make the embroidery in the photos--30 count Mikini 100% cotton in natural (imported from Greece), DMC floss, full color SOC (symbol-on-chart) pattern with both a close up and a full size schematic so you know how many repeats to work, along with a John James size 24 tapestry needle. The raw edges of the fabric are serged for your convenience, so you can start stitching as soon as you open the kit!

A note from Krista about Mikini: if you've wanted to work on finer counted thread fabrics, Mikini is a great place to begin because its threads are very crisp and even and I find them easier to see than similar 30ct linen fabrics.
