Spray starch is a great idea!
When I had trouble with my corners early on, I found that good old fashioned starch helped them stay square and in place. At first, hemming scared me, but now I absolutely love and look forward to it as my favorite part of a project. You're doing great!
You're doing great! Hemming is relaxing, meditative, and simply makes the piece! It's a great skill to learn (and to enjoy).
