Hi, I got some scrap fabric from Avlea and the hems were serged. Lovely to work with, but leaves me with a question: do I remove the thread from the serging before hemming? Thanks!
Most of the time, the un-lazy answer is the one you get! I always remove the serging because it adds bulk to the hem and often isn't stitched exactly on a straight line. It's nearly impossible to serge straight, so the tiny bit of wonk can make your hem appear wavy. You want the serging while you're working, then you want it gone once you're done.
Yes, I usually remove the serging if I can't cut it off. Its a bit of work but it makes the hem lay smoother.
