Someone from our church flea market over this last summer gave me this tablecloth that has a Crosstitch pattern stamped on. It doesn't look like I'll be counting threads, but how much floss do I use to cover up the x's?
If you have any other advice about stitching on stamped patterns I'd appreciate it :) Wishing you all a happy healthy and productive new year!
From the pictures, this looks like really nice linen. I'm thinking the stamped pattern will wash off with water, so you may want to be careful not to get it wet before it's finished? Anyhow, lucky you! This is a wonderful piece!
I like to experiment with different threads/flosses, and this looks like a lovely opportunity to have some serious fun.
Thank you both so much! Glad I asked ☺️ Kali xronia!
The stamped cross stitched pieces like yours used to be quite popular in the '70's and 80's in Greece because they stitch up fast and don't require all the counting. I did one around that time and used one strand of DMC Coton Perle, but a friend of mine did them with 3 strands of regular DMC. Try doing a few stitches with 2 strands as our fellow stitcher Suzanne M. advised, but if that doesn't work add a third strand. The Coton Perle gives a "rougher" rather than smoother look. Looking forward to seeing what you chose. Kali Xronia.
Hi. I have done several pieces like this in my (remote) past. In my experience, you would use two threads to stitch this. There may e en be some spots that would take to a French knot or other surface embroidery technique but I can’t really tell that from the photo. I think it will be a truly beautiful heirloom piece with an antique flavor.
