I will admit that I tend to use a belt and suspenders when I'm pin stitching. Meaning, I use a pin stitch to both start and end the floss, but I also tend to tuck a small length of thread behind other cross stitched on the back for 4 stitches or so. I can't help it! Otherwise I'd fret too much.
I am not very 'tech-able' so I'm not sure if this copy & paste will work. I have appreciated Nicola Parkman's tutorial on using the pin stitch with linen; I hope you will find it helpful as well! : )
