I've been enjoying rediscovering crossstitch with this year's Pascha basket cover (starting the last corner! Will I be done by next Easter??) and in typical fashion am already planning my next project jumping up a couple difficulty levels. Basically I want to dye my own embroidery thread from garden plants like indigo, and of course I chose single strand silk rather than good old six strand DMC floss.
How do I estimate floss yardage when I convert from 6 strand to single strand floss? If a pattern calls for 9 yards of color A DMC, should I make sure to dye 6x more yardage of the silk for that color?
Thanks!
