I am working my way through my first project and loving this new stitching challenge, but i’m struggling with my eyesight and find a difficult to do this type of fine work in low light. Do any of you use magnifying lenses or special types of lights in order to illuminate your work and make it a bit more peaceful? Any advice appreciated as I will be heading into a two week meditation retreat and would love to, do as much stitching as possible while I am there…

I too have a lowery floor stand with the accessories bar (recommend Lindy Stitches if you’re in the US) and I bought a Daylight Company, LLC Daylight MAG Lamp S, UN1200 off of Amazon and it works great with it. With my table clamp Lowery that I use when watching YouTube on my Mac I use a table clamp lighted magnifier I stole from my husband that alas has no branding on it. I tried to find it online but bumpkiss.
I use a Lowery workstand with the accessories bar. In the accessories bar, I attach a Canva lamp (this is a special swing arm lamp that has a phone holder and light ring for when I do videos, but you could you use any kind of swing arm lamp that has a post). In the past, I've also used various floor lamps, but I really like the way I can exactly position the swing arm lamp right over my work.
Lighting is such an important topic for stitching! I think sometimes when people don't feel like they're successful at stitching, they don't realize the lighting and possibly wearing magnifying glasses makes a HUGE difference.
I'll try and get a blog post put up about this in the next month--it's a great idea to have a detailed blog just devoted to this topic!
I came on here specifically to see if there was a thread about this. I am struggling to find the right light solution. I tend to sit in a chair to stitch where I could set up a floor lamp, but I also like to sit in bed at night and stitch instead of reading while my husband watches tv. Does anyone use one of those lighted magnifiers you wear around your neck, or lighted magnifying glasses (like a jeweler might use)?
I got a stand light + magnifier and it's a total game changer, I can work so much faster and more accurately and my eyes aren't exhausted.
I have the Brightech LightView Pro Magnifying Floor Lamp, 3 in 1 from Amazon - not too expensive and I've been really happy with the quality.
Bright light and close to your work. I had to learn as I got older that it’s not about speed. Some days I have to check practically every stitch with a magnifying glass. Other days, no problem. Go figure.
A good light and magnifiers make all the difference! I couldn't stitch at all without mine. You can use drug store magnifiers OR you can ask your optometrist to prescribe single vision magnifiers with a shorter focal distance for doing embroidery. I have mine set at 14" but it really depends on how close you hold your work.
The Daylight Halo Go is a great lamp & magnifier for travel.
